MICHAEL REHDER is a designer and creative director, whose work for publishing houses and agencies over the last 25 years has been honoured by the AR100 Show, The League of American Communications Professionals, The Advertising and Design Club of Canada, Marketing Magazine and Applied Arts. Clients have included first-tier Canadian and international companies in technology, health-care, finance, aviation, publishing, media broadcast, and real estate. An alumnus of OCAD University (formerly the Ontario College of Art & Design) in Toronto, his work has been featured in Graphis and HOW magazines, and been recognized with over 44 national and international design awards. Books he has designed and art directed regularly appear on both the New York Times and USA TODAY bestseller lists, including THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE by Heather Gudenkauf, which spent over 44 weeks on the NYT list and is the bestselling book ever published by Harlequin/Mira Books; and OVENLY, a cookbook from the well-known Brooklyn bakery which was named one of Entertainment Weekly's "Top Ten Cookbooks of 2014."
Upon starting his own practice in 2015, he began working with several publishers, including Amazon, Harper Collins, Hallmark Publishing, HBO, Penguin Random House, Sourcebooks, and Wharton School Press to specialize in author branding and book design for both fiction and non-fiction categories.
A champion of design as an industry, and as a business advantage to corporations, he has been active in The Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD) and The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), mentoring students and young designers; as well as sat on jury panels for design excellence in Canada. He currently sits on the advisory board for design at Centennial College in Toronto.
